The Value of Therapy

When we are physically injured or ill, we attend to our maladies. We wouldn’t dream of letting a compound fracture or a severe wound go untreated.

Yet, many of us have sustained emotional and relationship injuries, but we never seek treatment for these hidden wounds of the heart. Some people never give voice to the deep emotional pain that manifests itself in anxiety and depression.

In this way, we limit the expression of our truest selves. We believe the lie that we will never be able to heal, and we begin to develop a false self—a façade in our relationships, while denying our internal feelings: our fears, anxieties, and sadness. Our "insides" don’t match our "outsides," and we become disconnected from ourselves and from our intimate relationships. We don’t trust. We don’t feel. We don’t love. These good feelings become too risky for us. We get stuck and turn to a variety of addictions.

Therapy can help address these emotional and relationship wounds in a safe, supportive environment.

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) who is qualified to practice psychotherapy and mental health counseling. Additionally, I am a Registered Social Work Supervisor and I can provide supervision toward your licensure. I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers.

I graduated from the University of Maryland at Baltimore School of Social Work in 2003 with a Master’s in Social Work degree. I integrate EMDR into my approach to counseling and I use EMDR to help clients reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression that they experience. In addition to EMDR, I implement a number of treatment orientations including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Family Systems. I enjoy working with individuals, adolescents (13 and older), couples, families, and groups. I have had the pleasure of providing crisis intervention and consulting services to organizations and businesses in Anne Arundel County. Please call (443) 481-9028 to arrange an appointment, or you may schedule an appointment with me online.
